This kind of abuse goes on everyday in Everytown, USA. Granted the authorities are making a dent by prosecuting the bigger players who, in their lust for money and power, became careless in their pursuits. When there is corruption on all sides of the equation, it will continue to happen and the participants will only find other avenues to hide the money. Sad commentary. Thank you Jennifer for outing this kind of misbehavior.

The biggest player in the opioid slaughter is the Sackler family that helped get it started after they lied about OxyContin not being addictive. And so many other rotten things they did and yet not one of them has been charged with anything. McKinsey also helped the Sacklers, but it’s too big to just.

And all of the doctors who were just pill mills made it more difficult for people who use opioids responsibly to get them. The FDA is all over my doctor even though he follows all their rules to a T.

I was curious as I was not familiar with those dr's names, and do live in MO, but then again I don't work in healthcare. Interestingly, I started with Dr. Malik's name, and he is still listed in some of those 'find a provider' websites, and is listed as a dr affiliated with Mercy Hospital. When searching Dr. Ali's name, he and another doctor and a chiropractor were also indicted in 2020 for running a pill mill operation. https://www.dea.gov/press-releases/2020/02/13/three-doctors-indicted-conspiring-distribute-oxycodone Malik's name was absent from that bust.

The saddest part of all of this is that we already seem to have a provider shortage. Then you factor in the corrupt and the criminals and there are not enough Dr's to go around. My mom's doc is a gem (I've been taking mom to her appts for ~5 years now), and she said their smallish practice is down 4 docs due to retirements and not able to even replace them. Mom is 85 and her doc is mid 50's so she is not likely going to need to find a new doc, but she is not accepting new patients. Mine is a jab pusher and need to change but I only see him once a year so I put up with him for now, dreading trying to find one that is decent.

It is all so sick - the corruption in medicine. My mum and most of her generation thought the doctor was a wise and caring soul who used specialist knowledge to heal the sick and thus deserved and received her absolute trust. Me - I would rather speak with a herbalist or do research myself before consulting a doctor because to me they are just drug reps. I couldn't think of a catchy name for pharma bucks - best I had was drug dollars. I am sure someone can come up with something better.

How about channeling some hip hop slang and call the pharma money "pharma figgas?" "Figga" for figures/numbers on dollars...

Other examples of health care fraud within the system that encourages interventions. It’s a big business rewarded by Medicare and insurers.
