Interestingly, I started with Dr. Malik's name, and he is still listed in some of those 'find a provider' websites, and is listed as a dr affiliated with Mercy Hospital. When searching Dr. Ali's name, he and another doctor and a chiropractor were also indicted in 2020 for running a pill mill operation. https://www.dea.gov/press-releases/2020/02/13/three-doctors-indicted-conspiring-distribute-oxycodone Malik's name was absent from that bust.
The saddest part of all of this is that we already seem to have a provider shortage. Then you factor in the corrupt and the criminals and there are not enough Dr's to go around. My mom's doc is a gem (I've been taking mom to her appts for ~5 years now), and she said their smallish practice is down 4 docs due to retirements and not able to even replace them. Mom is 85 and her doc is mid 50's so she is not likely going to need to find a new doc, but she is not accepting new patients. Mine is a jab pusher and need to change but I only see him once a year so I put up with him for now, dreading trying to find one that is decent.
