I was on X with someone about this subject.

My response is "So, it is a cold?"

Others reported their symptoms of "a cold." And yes, for those who experience the razor blade throat symptom, it is no picnic. I have had it, but I don't report it like it is something unusual. I am fine with a group of people talking about their cold symptoms, as long as that doesn't translate into quarantine and mask wearing as the only possible solution, which apparently is on the table.

Jennifer: thanks for this reminder. I had been slacking off with the nasal spray but after your article i just ordered more. I have known of several people who had this “summer cold” and they were miserable.

They are saying it's LP8 strain...how do they know? I never saw a test for a variant, they don't exist in our lab.

Why, after everything that has happened, would anyone trust these people?

HOMEMADE XYLITOL ORAL / NASAL SPRAY - and a practical, spray till saturated, way to use it

I bought birch xylitol on amazon, (Health Garden brand, 15 oz package). To my understanding Xlear uses xylitol derived from corn . Any practical difference? I do not know. I had previously bought a 10 pack of "Snout" brand 30 ml nasal spray bottles on amazon, on the recommendation of a friend, these have proved to be very reliable. They have a much finer spray than the walmart squeeze bottle saline nasal spray I first used for homemade .5% povidone-iodine in homemade "neilmed" formula "normal" saline as part of covid prevention back in 2020. I now first use the xylitol oral/nasal spray, breathing in deeply while sprayed to saturation and need to blow my nose - then an additional few sprays of .5% PVI spray then 3M N95 for protection when indicated and additional prophylactic prevention measures when back home depending on perceived level of exposure to infected "shared air". All simple to do once a routine has been established.

I mix xylitol spray with PLAIN, boiled, bottled filtered water, NOT SALINE. Some research on Xylitol against cov2 showed higher antiviral action when it was diluted with a much lower concentration of saline then is used in the xlear formulation. Steve Kirsch in a published interview with the head man now at Xlear made a point that xylitol spray for use against covid was most effective in plain water and the head at Xlear agreed.

The consensus of information I have garnered from research papers using Xlear and said SK interview is that Xlear is ~12% xylitol (by weight?) in "normal" saline with .2% grapefruit seed extract. note; the xlear website was not forthcoming as to their formula concentrations nor did I see any breakdown on pictures on their bottle.

Using a small funnel I put a level (to just "scant" of level) tsp of xylitol in a 30 ml "snoot" brand oral/nasal spray bottle then pour in boiled and cooled plain filtered bottled water. I let "it" dissolve for a bit with a few shakes before I first spray. My tsp of xylitol weighs just below 3.9 grams. 30 ml of water weighs 30 grams so 12% would be ~ 3.6 grams there is possibly a bit more volume in the spray bottle. I have thought about adding 0.1% povidone-iodine or .3ml of povidone-iodine solution 10% measured with a syringe for an antiviral preservative but have not yet done so (or source genuine grapefruit seed extract?), I now just use it up and mix some more. To stop mold from forming, before refilling the spray bottle I use some bleach solution to clean out the bottle, pump sprayer and inside of the spray tip cover which is loosely placed over the bottle spray tip while working the spray pump to clean it out and also flood the inside of the cap and outside of tip, then rinse with some boiled and cooled water. I know bleach does not kill mold spores but so cleaning the bottle does prevent "off taste" from developing with my use and refill frequency. Better anti mold cleaners? a bit of iodine? isopropyl alcohol? anti mold cleaner used to clean equipment for home brewing / wine making?

Xylitol nasal flush solution is sold. I inhale a bunch of sprays into both my nose and mouth until I need to blow my nose. Then just a few .5% povidone-iodine sprays likewise inhaled. Povidone-iodine sprays have been tested and shown to lose effectiveness by 4 hours. Xyitol sprays probably have also lost effectiveness by 4 hours. Some may use one or both sprays every 2 hours or so in a "high risk" shared air environment. Early in covid one hospital system had its employees using .5% povidone-iodine spray 5 times from beginning to end of the work day.

I have not read of any concerns about overuse of Xylitol sprays and it is said to be beneficial to the nasal microbiome and reduce tooth decay - there are precautions voiced concerning overuse of povidone-iodine sprays. All Real Prevention was Suppressed. There are iodine studies, using overdoses, that were designed to show side effects.

Dr George Domb, ENT practicing in Redding, CA https://krcrtv.com/news/local/redding-doctor-says-he-may-have-a-solution-to-prevent-transmission-of-covid-19 (if page does not stay visible, refresh and rapidly click on the page as it momentarily appears). He used 1/2 tsp povidone-iodine solution 10% in a 44mL squeeze bottle of saline nasal spray. His cautions for its use (for prevention) "Do not use it if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have hyperthyroidism, are being treated for thyroid cancer with irradiated iodine, or hypersensitive to iodine. It should not be used on children younger than 6". I, personally, would certainly use it for most all at the first sign of possible covid infection.
