I have had a slew of questions in my office this week regarding the rumors and lies from mainstream media that Trump ended Medicare and Medicaid with his Federal Funding freeze.
My speculation was that the reason why the portal went down had to do with so many people checking it to make sure it was working, which led to it going down.
The left is dying to find something they can get hysterical about and pin on Trump.
That being said, there ARE a lot of fed dollars that do touch our lives one way or the other - which is why DOGE is risky. Everyone wants to see the Federal Gov shrunk until it shrinks in a way that effects them. One example is a highway project in my area that is being done with local/state/Fed dollars. If that gets whacked we are stuck as local and state can't afford to make up the difference.
I agree, just sayin' the court of public opinion is harsh and swift with social media fanning the flames - Trump and some of his people may not care, but a lot of this has to go thru Congress if it is to become permanent and way too many so called Conservative members are scared rabbits when the heat is on.
And while it is not in the Constitution, I would argue that interstate highways do need Federal coordination and funding. There was a state Highway in MO, highway 71, that was converted to Interstate, now I-49, that at some point should connect through Arkansas to Texarkana which would create a much more efficient north-south shipping corridor, but Arkansas has not had the funds. They just were awarded some Fed dollars for one stretch, and would argue that this is something the gov't needs to do - roads and bridges.
Well agree, but the hysteria ramping up is going to be an impediment to making clear eyed decisions about policy. This derailed Trump last time, but hoping that his having 4 years to plan this is going to help make some positive changes permanently. (not just EO's)
right, the Orange Man wouldn't have been able to immediately swipe away so much of Brandon's "legacy" if Joe's executive orders had actually been legislated through congress.
I blame Obummer for the normalization of heavy executive order use, but it's not like any of his successors so far have said "gee, unilateral power like executive orders should be blocked by legislation to preserve the constitutional system of checks and balances!"
I've been seeing people freaking out on zuckerbook about thinking they're going to lose SSDI, Medicaid, school free lunches...
all of them watch mass media Nooz and wouldn't bother to read an executive order to verify what they've been told by Experts.

losses of federal funding anywhere would not affect me.
I'd love to see the entire federal government reduced to bare bones constitutional status.

If they create the right incentives, they will find a way.

Great of you to clarify
