As someone with chronic pain, I resent the way pain treatment has evolved. The only treatments allowed are the ones where you have to pretend the pain doesn't exist. Anything to actually help someone get even a little relief is vilified. The VA doesn't treat for chronic pain anymore. OK, they will make you set through a series of appointments where you play Let's Pretend with a Sadist who tells you that the pain is all your fault and the VA bears no responsibility for treatment. So the Veteran is left to their own devices. At least street drugs are cheap. "Thank you for your service" my a$$.

Do you suppose we could strike some sort of balance? Maybe not promote pain drugs to those that don't need them but make them available to those that could benefit from them? What am I saying? That's crazy talk!

I am lucky. I found a doctor that helped me find a way around the opioid craziness without visiting the Corner Boys. I seriously doubt there are many like this doctor out there. That doctor made a big difference in my life.

After my back injury in 1998 I was prescribed OxyContin and suffered from bad side effects. It was hell coming off it. I was prescribed a great pain medication, but it was very expensive and the insurance wanted me off it. When I moved and had to find another pain doctor he didn’t believe me that I suffered the side effects so he withheld the one I could tolerate and I had to take OxyContin again and prove that I couldn’t nor shouldn’t be taking it. I had to suffer coming off it again! Of course he just could have read my previous doctor’s notes!

I’m absolutely pissed that the Sackler family is not in prison for what they did to hundreds of thousands of people who many are dead. They knew how bad it was as did the corrupt FDA! There are lots more people who should be in prison! Good thing I don’t rule the world.
