New (unnecessary) baseball stadium in Arlington Texas for the Rangers. We were told the same thing, the Rangers might leave if this isn't approved. But word is it was the city pushing it, the Rangers didn't want to leave. Public voted by 51% to approve. They ran on "no new taxes" failing to admit the tax was due to expire
Just how much money from stadium and teams benefit the community? I’m betting it’s a very low figure if any. And yet these billionaires want poor Joe and Mary to cough up the doe for their stadiums. Billionaires profit from high priced food and beverages, but pay their staff very low wages. It’s a scam and I hope people tell them to take a hike. How many regular folks can afford tickets these days?
I used to spend $5 to watch the A's play in a great seat. Those days are long gone.
This right here! To attend a Chiefs game, it is $80 to park, $400 for 2 tickets (low balling that as ticket prices are high now), a beer is $20, a hot dog and nachos will run you another $20-30, so by my math I am spending at least $550 to sit and watch a game. No thank you! I have never been to a Chiefs game, but I know plenty of former season ticket holders who had been for decades, during the losing and lean years, who now cannot afford to keep their tickets. Mahomes will retire, so will Kelce, and we will still be on the hook for the extended stadium taxes until 2064.
Same thing happened in DC. NOW most seats are owned by corporations who hand them out to employees, business associates etc to fill the seats and make it look good. Most new stadiums and NASCAR grandstands are building fewer seats but at the same time making them look larger. Perception is everything.
Let them borrow the money from the hedge funds or maybe a bond (so that at least if the owners are making money, investors should also).
Wow I didn’t know that the prices were that high. And unfortunately people pay it instead of sending a message that no they won’t get robbed like that.
It seems every industry is making it so locals can’t partake. I grew up skiing at snow basin on the other side of Ogden, Utah for $8 day and season pass was under $250. Now it’s way over $100 and over $1,000. And the developers of houses in the valley are making homes too expensive for the staff to live. This is happening all over the state. Soon there will be no workers unless they start paying living wages.
Totally sick minds! Why pay for a stadium for a privately-held company that makes tons of money??? Hopefully, they don't ask the taxpayers to pay for this trash. Let Travis Pfizer Killsee go elsewhere. You can't make this dysfunctional crap up! Thanks Jennifer. Peace.
Ha Ha! Joke's on them. 2031 is a LONG way off. Most of the people here can't think beyond today, let alone 7 years from now. I can honestly say that the only thing I'd miss if the Chiefs departed is shopping at Costco during the games. The store is deserted!
I'd like to add: The 10 Major League Baseball Teams with the worst attendance figures ALL built "downtown stadiums" in the last few years. No one wants to go downtown to the parking desert and high crime to see a ball game. Ticket sales tell the tale. And the idea that Kansas Citians are going to take "public transportation" to the game is preposterous. We don't take "public transportation" anywhere. Especially the Street Car to Nowhere.

The Colts did about the same thing to Indy many, many years ago.
Yes, it is coercion. It is a threat.

Sports have become nothing but avenues for gaming.
The goose is being slaughtered before our eyes and soon, sports will be gone as well.
Little wonder the world is devolving into chaos: children no longer know how to play with others without supervision.
