I remember when Mayor Lucas announced the quasi lockdown in Kansas City - Jackson County. He was making the announcement on the local television channels. I was in a restaurant filled with the frightened gullible. NOTE: I naturally read micro-expressions. Always have. Not something I can really control. Anyway, the more Mayor Lucas spoke about the impending COVID 19(84) tragedy and the sacrifices all of us Little People were going to have to make, the more aroused he got. Serious nostril flareage. I thought he was going to finish right there on TV. So knowing what I know about anyone who REALLY wants to be in charge, (they are all tyrants) it clued me in to the fact that the entire COVID 19(84) thing was nothing more than a power grab. Worse, it was not opportunistic, it was carefully crafted. I tried to tell others, but they were buying the Fauci hype. Eating it up with a big spoon. I know in my heart of hearts that the vast majority of the formerly gullible still are. And those feeding us the hype want us dead. Line up gullible stooges!
I was there as much as I hate going to the courthouse downtown - parking blocks away where sketchy characters follow you around and wondering if your car will still be there when you get back. AND they hold meetings during the weekday (on purpose - they don't really want public input) which means taking away from work time to attend them - between the drive, parking and attending and driving back home I lose half a day.
It is also a testament to what a relatively small group of people (the gallery is not that large but it was standing room only) + a lot of people who could not attend due to work that called & emailed can do. And half the legislature cowered on zoom vs attending in person. Props to Chair Teresa Galvin for inviting a representative of the people to speak. And the odious bill sponsor Crystal Williams had the good sense not to run again in Nov 2022. Her co-sponsor, Jalen Anderson, did manage to win re-election, though and will be on the ballot again in 2026. Word on the street is he will be challenged by LGBTQabcxyz gadfly activist Justice Horn. As an at-large district, it will be almost impossible to elect a conservative.
I think his hope is that this will be tied up in court which buys him more time. There is also already a citizen lawsuit against him as well. I am not sure what he thinks he is holding onto - there was a rally yesterday and the Urban League and 2 other D power broker groups spoke against him and asked him to resign yesterday. He is finished.
Of course, as an elected official he has grifter powers that helps his financial situation. Despite a 6 figure salary, a pension of $6K a month from the Royals and whatever he is getting paid as minor league coach he has fallen behind on his mortgage 3 times in the last decade or so, and each time some 'donor' (Ken McClain for one who rents property to the county) bails him out. And it's not that extravagant of a home?! I could certainly pay my bills on just one of his income streams!?
I know, right!? He is MIA from a lot of legislature meetings as he is too busy with his side gig coaching a minor league baseball team.
And it astounds me that he was even re-elected in 2022 despite a very competent, non-corrupt opponent whose only problem was the R beside her name in very blue KC. I knocked a lot of doors for her in midtown and the only thing most voters cared to ask about was if she was a Trump supporter. The Eastern half of Jackson county is red or purple but the D machine in Kansas City is all but impossible to overcome in county-wide races.
And that is why I am concerned when I see prisons erected like Alligator Alcatraz. Who is going to end up in these facilities down the road. Not hard to figure out how a prison state turns out. Patriot Act ring any bells.
Did anyone else notice just how quickly the Patriot Act appeared in Congress after the attacks on 9/11? It was not a slim volume. Poof! That bit of legislation was setting on a shelf somewhere. It looks like a Wish List for budding tyrants. It was waiting for just the right occasion to be brought out. Then all the legislators who normally would have to run away from it if they ever wanted to be re-elected could vote for it out in the open. Decisions made under pressure are never optimal. At least now we know all those who voted for the Patriot Act and want us dead wanted to enslave us first.
A small determined group of citizens can work miracles when they need to.
Mary: exactly what i was thinking.

In other news, the county executive Frank White has vetoed an ordinance establishing the recall election against him - despite the effort gathering enough signatures to force this election. The legislature is meeting at 10 AM today to over-ride this veto. https://jacksonco.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=1327552&GUID=DB83499D-5CEF-41C4-B87F-3F2CC3066825&Options=info|&Search=
So, Frank White vetoes the ordinance establishing the recall against him. No conflict of interest there. You couldn't make this stuff up!
