The newest “pHARMa” drugs to hit the market in 2024

This is a fun eclectic group of meds that are ready to become the next billion dollar brain child of the healthcare industry.
Remember: the drug does not have to perform BETTER than cheap generics on the market. It just has to perform AS GOOD. And the clinical trial data is so cherry picked that who knows if any of this works.
Digging in on a few of them:
The new schizophrenia drug KarXT. First off, there are tons of generic meds already on the market for Schizophrenia. Second, Schizophrenia is not a common mental health illness. Less than 1% of the population has true schizophrenia. This is not a big market. BUT. Most Schizophrenia patients are on disability and have Medicare/Medicaid so they are banking on government insurance paying the high price of this drug. It will be $1500+ per month of meds. They are “claiming” that it has less sedation and weight gain than other drugs in the same drug class. Well guess what? THEY ALL SAY THAT. Every single new med for Schizophrenia/Bipolar disorder claims they have less weight gain. Until you trial it on a patient and they gain weight on it just like their predecessors. Mention THAT to a pharma rep and they quickly pull out their little book of clinical data and they show you the “graph” of weight gain and you say “yeah, you only measured it over 6 weeks”. Cherry picked. I prefer injectable meds for Schizophrenia, as they remove error of forgetting your meds. Let’s see how much this one bombs. They predict $2.8 billion in sales by 2028, and are competing for FDA approval to use it in Parkinson’s agitation as well (just like Lundbeck’s drug Rexulti got approval for last year)
The new drug Resmetirom for fatty liver disease. No drug has worked thus far for NASH, or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. NASH is the leading cause of liver transplants in our country. Poor diet, obesity, and diabetes are the leading cause. IF YOU CHANGE YOUR EATING, FATTY LIVER GOES BYE BYE. But why do that, if you have a new pill to do it for you.
Moderna’s “mRNA 1345”. OH you know this was coming. We got a fancy new mRNA shot for RSV. Because we didn’t learn our lesson with the covid vaccine mRNA platform, what the hell, lets go for round 2 with the RSV version. I hope everyone says hell no to this one.
I also read that big pharma are expecting something like a 70% increase in cancer which should be a real money spinner for them. Like most reading your substack I have lost all faith in products produced by big pharma (with a couple of notable exceptions) but today I read some words from James Lindsey which gave me hope so I thought I would share them:

Without sufficient compliance in the mobilized segment of the population, there is no successful politics of compliance. It all falls apart"

I just read an article in the Normie press this morning that they are finally realizing Applied Behavior Analysis for Autism does not work and is probably harmful. We could have told them that two decades ago. We should be starting to realize most of what we call treatment in health and mental health care is iatrogenic. It pays well though.
