This is behind a stupid paywall, but there is a ton of data coming out about the lack of benefit of statins.
Most people have been sold the bill of goods that their cholesterol is “too high” and their “bad cholesterol” is too high and they have some calcifications in their vessels and the statin they are about to prescribe you is the savior.
It is not.
In head to head studies, the incidence of myocardial infarction is rarely different among people who have taken a statin and those who have not over the long term.
This was published in 2015: “Thus, the epidemic of heart failure and atherosclerosis that plagues the modern world may paradoxically be aggravated by the pervasive use of statin drugs. We propose that current statin treatment guidelines be critically reevaluated.”
Here is a great discussion about the role of cholesterol in synthesis of vitamin D https://x.com/holmanm/status/1695291344355209592?s=61&t=e_kQXjN0XV-ohh_U2PFEVg
And lets not forget the role of cholesterol in the body. It is a precursor to many hormones, such as Testosterone. Have you ever wondered why we have the epidemic of “low testosterone” in males, especially those in their 30’s and 40’s? If we deplete the body of cholesterol, it removes the building block to the creation of testosterone, which in turn leads to yet more pharma benefits of patients using testosterone replacement.
Over the past 3 decades, the American Heart Association has reduced the “acceptable” cholesterol numbers many times. This is to continue to push a statin on every patient possible. Lets also not forget that prescribing statins to 80% of patients is part of the “insurance payout bonus” that primary care providers receive. It is no different than forcing a kid to get vaccinated for a payout.
Research this for your own benefit. The side effects of statins are muscle pain, atrophy, decreased testosterone, memory loss, and little to no benefit in the reduction of cardiovascular events.
Statins are not the solution. Avoiding inflammation in bloodvessel wall is the key. How is that achieved? Not with statins that’s for sure.
Thanks Jennifer. I am a "high cholesterol" person. I would never take any of the BP crap. Their business model: lying for profit. Peace.
