I posted the article above only to show the hypocrisy of that statement. The article above is penned from the position that government and politicians have no business regulating abortion. Read it if you like, but it was posted only to show how they miss the big picture.
If you want politicians to stay out of your healthcare, then you have to abolish the pharma companies from throwing money at political campaigns. You cannot have a pharma bought and paid for politician if you want politicians to stay out of your healthcare. You cannot have insurance company PAC’s throwing money at politicians if you want politicians to stay out of your healthcare. You cannot have politicians creating bills with their pharma/insurance companies special interests at heart instead of their constituents interests if you want politicians to stay out of healthcare. A contingency of people are in a huge uproar about SCOTUS overturning Roe V Wade and punting decisions to individual states to make their own abortion law decisions. But alas, that is merely one menial piece of the pie my friends. How many people seek an abortion each day versus the number of people seeing primary health treatment each day? While they bicker and bitch about “how dare the state have control over my body” when it pertains to abortion, they have ZERO problems with the state and politicians controlling everything ELSE in your healthcare!!! The distraction of making it purely about abortion leaves the other 99% of healthcare completely ignored when it comes to politicians regulating your healthcare.
The truth of the matter is, politicians are involved in EVERY PIECE of your healthcare. Every single healthcare reform bill in every single state is bought and paid for by a pharmaceutical or insurance company. The billions of dollars that are funneled to politicians at the state and federal level is what indeed dictates your healthcare. If you want that to stop, you gotta cut the snake head off and stop allowing pharma and insurance money to be paid to politicians. Or maybe we stop letting politicians decide on bills for healthcare and we just take a public vote on what we want. We are in the heart of state and federal government legislative sessions. Review the bills your state is trying to pass. Look at their healthcare reform committee. You see something you do not like? Send an email, call them, and let your message be heard. Share on social media what bill is being proposed and make people aware. There are thousands of bills proposed each session, and most constituents have no clue they even exist. If we want politicians out of our healthcare and we want them to stop playing doctor, we have to be active and get involved.
It is your constitutional given right that your government works for YOU, not the other way around.
Most importantly, boycott BIG pHARMa and spread your word!
Ha Ha Ha!!!! No one crawls through all the garbage it takes to get elected to do "the right thing". One gets elected to better one's self. What is the one thing elected politicians have to sell? I'll give you a hint, it's the same thing Kings used to sell. (Has there ever been a politician that left office poorer than when they took office?) Politicians can only sell a competitive edge that is otherwise illegal. They change the law to benefit one party over another. It is no surprise that the highest bidder gets the most favors. Why is the US Tax Code thousands of pages long? Gotta pack a lot of favors in there. While technically those elected "need" our votes, they can count on the fact that most of the electorate has no clue about the issues, betrayals, or outright criminality. The electorate cares even less than they know about it. Given that people who seek special favors outbid the apathetic electorate every time, do you really believe the government will work for "us"?
I don't have a foolproof solution. As long as there is power there will be people who seek it to abuse it. Perhaps adding a body to the legislature who's only function is to repeal laws would be a step in the correct direction. At least it might keep those who sell us out at every turn on their toes for a bit.
As long as we give people power over us, they will abuse it. After all, what else is power for? Yes, I am cynical, but I came by it honestly.
