this year, multiple shops have outright refused to install new parts bought from the manufacturer of the car because their new corporate ownership doesn't cover the liability when they don't purchase and mark up crappier parts themselves.
many small shops can no longer afford the insurance or liability protection needed to stay in business nowadays.
I fix vehicles for myself and sometimes for friends for around 50% shop labor quote when they buy the parts, but I've gotten super picky about who I'll help with that due to being cheated in the past on payment for working too fast. and because I don't want the liability issue if a part or repair fails on a stranger's vehicle.
Regulations and lousy reimbursements are what drive doctors out.
