Re the loser from Arizona who apparently thinks adding gasoline is a good idea, my father comes to mind. The stunning stupidity that he saw everywhere -- back then! -- would sometimes prompt him to ponder, "How can some people be so stupid...and still live?"
Our current circumstances remind me on the regular of my father's woeful pondering. Schweikert is the latest -- and yet another -- public example that warrants my father's question.
"Medical Practice Transformation: If passed, HR 238 could lead to a transformation in how medical care is delivered, particularly in areas like telemedicine or remote healthcare, where AI could assist or even autonomously handle certain aspects of patient care like medication management."
Autonomously? "Transforming" in the title is the tell
"Ethical and Practical Considerations: There's significant debate about the ethical implications, including concerns about accountability, privacy, and the potential for AI to perpetuate or introduce biases in healthcare. The accuracy of AI in diagnosing and treating compared to human practitioners is also under scrutiny, with some discussions highlighting that AI might not always match or exceed human performance in all scenarios."
Kiosk medicine? On line autonomous prescribing, same day delivery by FedEx?
AI does have the probability to replace some MDs (notably oncology and Radiology) as well as enhance their access to instant info (good). Wonder when we will be examined by "Sophias?" "Tesla Bot"?
Putting the Sci in sci-fi, AI makes the Fiction category become Horror. In fact, Sci-Ho is a reality show unfolding in multiple seasons (innuendo intentional)!
It is all predicated on gatekeeping. Transferring that role from humans to machines is.....well, only the very sheltered and those profiting from gatekeeping, would fail to acknowledge that it's an incremental step toward making computers our masters.
If they wanted to remove the gatekeeping altogether, that would be one thing, but that's not what this corrupt legislator is advocating.
I feel like this is just formalizing the "Pharma Flowchart" nature of medicine. Sort of like how they'll want AI to teach your kids.
Hard pass for me!
👏👏👏💯🎯😉

Why oh why did i click that like button??
Hell in a handbasket stuff!!
Hasn't Rep. Schweikert ever seen a science fiction movie? Paging Dr. Skynet!
