First, notice how the narrative has shifted. This is the TSA giving kudos to staff on the ground who responded to a pilot in cardiac arrest. A few months ago, these news stories were buried and covered up.
Two Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers were in the middle of a security operation at Virginia’s Richmond International Airport (RIC) when they quickly jumped into action after seeing an airline pilot suddenly collapse.
The pilot suffered cardiac arrest.
Trenard saw the pilot on the other side of the atrium,” Allen recalled, “and told me, ‘I think that guy is about to pass out.’ I looked over just as the pilot fell to the floor.”The pilot approached a railing, staggered, and toppled over his roller bags, passing out. Allen sprinted to the pilot’s side, called for assistance, and began performing first aid.
Police and firefighters arrived, and while they performed CPR, Allen continued assisting the pilot and first responders. The emergency escalated when the pilot’s heart stopped beating, requiring extended medical intervention. At this point, Allen sprinted down the hall to retrieve an automated external defibrillator.
So the questions we all have. Was this pilot reporting for duty that day or had he just deplaned after being in the air shortly before? Did he have any previous heart issues? What airline did he fly for? How many injections has he had? They give a great feel good story about the quick and timely actions of these two TSA workers (who yes, thank you for your quick response and for saving this man’s life) but how many people are asking the same questions I am. Many of us are.
The Air Line Pilot Association magazine publishes all deaths of commercial pilots ─ an understandably unified cadre. Deaths in 2019 – 1. Deaths in 2020 – 6. Deaths in 2021 – 111 which is an increase of 1,750%. Nothing to see here, folks.
