In my case I had no idea what was wrong with me, I was 61 years old, in great shape, but my lower back was in so much pain I couldn't get off the floor at home. Because I wasn't bleeding out on the floor of the ER, the triage nurses didn't label me as an emergency. I was low priority to see the doctor, but my wife who saw enough of my agonizing she grabbed a doctor walking by and said "ANEURYSMS RUN IN HIS FAMILY", -- he looked at me and the last thing I remember hearing "This is serious". I was bleeding out fast -internally-. But my vitals looked good and I think that sidetracked the triage people. When they did do an ultrasound, Doctor suspected a rupture. I was very fortunate my wife has a birdy that said it could be an aneurysm. So, it is not just Canada.
