When the covid shot and cosmetic fillers do not play nice together

We present a case of a 43 -year-old women with delayed type 4 hypersensitivity reaction to hyaluronic acid cosmetic filler triggered by COVID-19 mRNA vaccination. We outline the clinical presentation, diagnosis, complications, and treatment of a late inflammatory reaction to hyaluronic acid filler and highlight the treatment priorities for clinicians faced with similar presentations. She received her first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in April 2021. Three weeks later, she underwent routine facial injections with HA. The following day, she developed a large erythematous pustule involving the left cheek at the site of HA injection which persisted despite multiple courses of antibiotics (cefadroxil, cephalexin and doxycycline). In July 2021, she received her second dose of COVID-19 Moderna Vaccine. Within 24 h, she developed profound malaise and facial edema, unresponsive to intravenous antibiotics or epinephrine. In the following weeks, new nodules and indurations erupted on her cheeks and chin, at the sites of previous HA injections later confirmed by ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Of interesting note, she had been getting fillers for 3 years with no complications. After these issues popped up post covid vaccine, she was tested for sensitivity to the filler agents and tested positive. This lends to the hypothesis of the covid vaccine agents triggering autoimmune concerns and allergy sensitivities that previously did not exist.
Here is the best part: they knew this during clinical trial of the shots. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been reports of delayed immune reactions at the site of HA-injection following COVID-19 vaccination including 3 cases from the Moderna Phase III trial, reported by the FDA”.
I have heard anecdotal reports of women having issues with old fillers after getting covid vaccinated, with weird lumps and leaking fluids in areas that had been filler treated before. I have a couple of patients who experienced this, and I was able to see that reaction in real time.
When the covid shots rolled out in early 2021 there were main stream media reports of women with fillers having reactions. That quickly disappeared and they said not a serious concern, rare, get the shot etc. My cosmetic dermatologist has been warning everyone of reactions. He told me a few years ago the shots were causing all kinds of issues. Another side effect they covered up.
Every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of the sociopaths who designed the Covid pathogen and it's far more deadly "vaccine." I had a cancer removed from my face in late 2020 and the surgery left a crater that was filled with hyaluronic acid. It looked great with the filler, but when I had the Moderna shot in 2021 the filler burned like molten lead and left a scar on my face. The famed oculoplastic surgeon who had injected the filler told me it was a common side effect of all vaccines, which (as a physician) I knew was nonsense. I caught Covid a few months later and the filler again burned like molten lead as the cross-reactive response was reignited and the disfigurement worsened.
