Welcome to 2023! Happy New Year! The newest pre-print shows that the bivalent omicron vaccine recipients had MORE covid infections than the unvaccinated.

Among 51,011 Canadian workers, the bivalent covid vaccine was effective about 30% of the time.  (Basically the same odds as the sham bam flu shot yearly).

Employees of Cleveland Clinic in employment on the day the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine first became available to employees, were included. The cumulative incidence of COVID-19 was examined over the following weeks. The analysis was adjusted for the pandemic phase when the last prior COVID-19 episode occurred, and the number of prior vaccine doses received.

Among 51011 employees, 20689 (41%) had had a previous documented episode of COVID-19, and 42064 (83%) had received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 occurred in 2452 (5%) during the study. Risk of COVID-19 increased with time since the most recent prior COVID-19 episode and with the number of vaccine doses previously received.

Out of the 51,011 employees, 10,804 employees received the omicron bivalent booster.   The mean age in the study was 42 years old.  20,689 participants had already had documented previous covid 19 illness.  12,029 of the participants had already had omicron.  44,592 participants had 1 previous covid vaccine, 42,064 had 2 previous covid vaccines, 27,254 had 3 previous vaccines, and 3,858 had 4 or MORE previous covid vaccines.

The risk of covid section was particularly interesting.  “Risk varied by the phase of the epidemic when the last covid infection occurred.  Decreasing order of risk was determined to be highest risk among those never infected, then delta infected, then omicron BA 1/2 infected, and lowest risk was previous omicron BA 4/5 infected.  This is the good part :  THE RISK OF COVID ALSO VARIED BY THE NUMBER OF COVID VACCINES PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED.  THE HIGHER THE NUMBER OF PREVIOUS VACCINES RECEIVED, THE HIGHER THE RISK OF CONTRACTING COVID 19. Huh.  You don’t say.  The more vaccinated you are, the higher the risk of contracting covid?  Haven’t we been screaming that for months?  Ethical skeptic has been preaching this for months.

The bivalent omicron booster was approximately 30% effective at protecting someone from contracting covid WHEN the BA 4/5 omicron was circulating.  As we know, that variant has already been taken over by other ones.  So even at the PEAK of the 4/5 variant, the omicron booster was at best, 30% effective.
