In recent years, the use of Psilocybin, or the active hallucinogenic found in “magic mushrooms” has been tested for treatment of anxiety and depression. Results don’t lie: in a recent study done, anxiety reduced by 9.2 points on the Hamilton Anxiety scale (this is significant). Rather than loading a patient up on 2-3 meds to treat anxiety, could one little fungus fix anxiety?
Anecdotally, I am aware of a few people who are growing their own “shrooms” and taking small amounts daily or every other day, known as microdosing. They all report that the calming effects from the use of psilocybin is better than any medication they have trialed. They are able to regulate emotions, feel calmer, less anxious, and less sad.
Clinical studies going back as far as 2016 have shown a positive benefit in reduced anxiety in cancer patients when they were given Psilocybin.
The number of herbal and naturopathic options are truly limitless.
That's one thing about Oregon..we have plenty of mushrooms! Even in my small town of 10,000 people we have a brain health MD who is working with people to help support their healing with natural fungus and supplements instead of pharmaceuticals
This is good to know. I find that traditional anti depressants and anti anxiety medications very lacking. Wish these mushrooms were easier to get (not well enough to grow my own). I guess Big Pharma doesn’t want competition☹️.
